This quote reminds us why the practicum experience This quote reminds us why the practicum experience is the heart of teacher education. You can study pedagogy. You can learn about classroom management, assessment, planning, relationships, and inclusion. You can understand the theory. But there comes a moment when that knowledge meets the beautiful complexity of a real classroom. That's where understanding begins. The practicum isn't simply an opportunity to "practice teaching." It's where future educators begin to integrate what they've learned with what they experience. It's where they discover that teaching is as much about judgment as it is about knowledge. And that's why mentors are indispensable.A mentor teacher (host/associate/coordinating/collaborating teacher) doesn't replace experience or shield a teacher candidate from it. Instead, they create the conditions for experience to become meaningful. They notice. They question. They encourage reflection. They help connect theory to practice and practice back to theory. The practicum isn't an interruption to teacher education; It is teacher education. And mentors are among its greatest teachers—not because they have all the answers, but because they help future educators make sense of the questions.#MentorMonday #TeacherEducation #Practicum #Mentorship

The question isn't actually: "Who is smarter than The question isn't actually:"Who is smarter than me?"It's:"Smarter about what?"One person may understand literacy instruction deeply.Another may understand systems change.Another may have wisdom that only comes from lived experience.Another may ask the question that changes the entire conversation.Mentorship isn't about finding the smartest person. It's about recognizing that intelligence is distributed, expertise is contextual, and wisdom emerges in relationship.People who know more than we do don't diminish our ideas—they stretch them. They help us see blind spots, ask better questions, and imagine possibilities we couldn't see alone. If you're always the smartest person in the room, it's easy to become the teacher of everyone else's learning and the student of no one's. Being surrounded by people with different expertise reminds us that learning is lifelong, and we can all be mentorees.#MentorMonday #TheMentoree #expertise #support #distributiveknowledge #lifelonglearning
One of the hidden benefits of mentorship is courag One of the hidden benefits of mentorship is courage. Not the absence of fear, but the willingness to move despite it.When someone believes in us, asks good questions, listens deeply, and reminds us of our strengths, uncertainty becomes a little easier to carry.Mentors don't eliminate risk. They help us see that growth is worth it.Because most meaningful learning happens in motion. The first lesson. The first evaluation. The first difficult conversation. The first attempt.Messy movement often teaches us more than perfect planning ever could.#MentorMonday #Mentorship #Growth #LearningInMotion

It may surprise some people to think that we need It may surprise some people to think that we need to use andragogy to support a teacher candidate's development of pedagogy. After all, teacher candidates are learning how to teach children, and much of their coursework focuses on understanding how children learn. Yet teacher candidates are not children themselves. They are adult learners, bringing prior experiences, established beliefs, professional identities, and personal goals into the learning process. When we forget this distinction, mentorship and teacher education can unintentionally become overly directive, focusing on compliance rather than growth. When we embrace an andragogical approach, however, we create opportunities for teacher candidates to exercise agency, reflect critically, draw on their experiences, and actively construct their professional identities. In other words, helping future teachers develop strong pedagogy begins with recognizing that they learn best through andragogy.Check out our newest Letters from The Mentoree written by @iamnoadaniel @drdenisefurlong @livedandlearning:https://thementoree.substack.com/p/pedagogy-vs-andragogy?r=5hsz9j#pedagogy #androgogy #support #preservice #mentorteacher #education
